With entrepreneurship in his blood, The Mako Group founder and Chief Executive Officer, David Lefever knew early on that he was meant to follow a path of business ownership. The thought of creating something from an idea and watching it grow into a company comprised of honest, trustworthy and family focused professionals who shared a similar goal of working with businesses to ensure they’re putting their best foot forward motivated him.
With a young family of his own, it was important to create a “family-first” culture that supports his employees and provides a highly professional, but flexible and fun environment. This mantra carries through on everything The Mako Group does. Under David’s leadership, the organization takes great pride in helping customers establish confidence in management of their cybersecurity and control environments and leaves each partnership feeling like they have become a part of their culture. This has created many successful, lasting relationships with clients and resulted in The Mako Group being featured on the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in the US listing, making the top 25 for cybersecurity firms.
As CEO, David plays a significant role in the building and nurturing of relationships while driving a successful delivery and solutions team. He is the leading force behind the organization's strategic vision which constantly evolves based on updated industry standards and works to put The Mako Group at the forefront of cyber controls and security. He worked together with The Mako Group’s network testing team to build a lab to amplify the organization penetration testing capabilities and provides unique, independent perspective to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to create new security guidance standards.
David received his Bachelor of Science degrees in both marketing and logistics from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis and was named an E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in 2017. Together with his wife, two sons and daughter, David enjoys cheering on Indiana University, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. When not in the office you’re likely to find him with his toes in the sand or a fishing pole in his hand.
Shane O’Donnell joined The Mako Group as partner and Chief Audit Executive in 2012. He was charged with launching the company’s Detroit office while managing The Mako Group’s audit team and overseeing the overall audit function within the group. Since then, The Mako Group has built a strong presence in the Detroit market and continues to grow.
In addition to providing a family first promise, The Mako Group is dedicated to having a specialized team that enables the organization to achieve the highest level of cybersecurity audit standards. Shane plays an integral role in the training and development of staff to ensure they are meeting the organization's high expectations on all client engagements.
Shane received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Mich., as well as his master’s degree in Accounting from Walsh College, Troy, Mich. Shane is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified CSF Practitioner (CCSFP) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). A life-long Grosse Ile resident, he and his wife returned to the island which is located in the Detroit River to raise their family after being away for 6 years. In his free time he enjoys reading, golfing, kayaking and traveling with his wife and their three children.
